Making the Ayumi x Lo-Fi collaboration video with the MV1

How did we film this live-painting video collaboration with Ayumi?

We used the Sony MV1 recorder of course, but also put a lot of camera tools to use to get the sounds and angles that we wanted to create this piece.

The band performance was one part of the filming that we really wanted to get a "live" sound with the reverbs and environmental noise of the live painting setting.

With the MV1 we were able to capture all of this at once and it really helped bring the painting sounds to the forefront!

Ayumi x Lo-Fi x Sony collaboration!

So the long awaited new music video is finally here!

やっとビデオがリリースされました！

It's a collaboration between our band and painter Ayumi.

She's a unique painter in Japan that mixes street art styles with stained glass and acrylic paints to create a mishmash of different tastes with a uniting theme linked to emotions.

Like music it captures a feeling that we have like a record of our emotional past.

We tried putting the painting and music together to a high degree by recording the painting sounds themselves as an instrument. This was made possible by using the Sony HDRMV1 camera to film and record at the same time.

All the footage you see in our clip is from the MV1, same goes for the sound!
NOTHING was recorded on another recording device...!

The story of this video is about being isolated and alone, but by creating something, it brings people together.

今回の映像はAyumiと一緒にコラボレーションをしました！

全ての映像と音は実際の絵を描きあげる過程で発生する音とLo-Fiの楽曲を合わせて曲にしました。

実際ライブペインティングのイベントをやる形で過程を映像にできて面白い作品になったと思うのでチェックしてください。全ての映像と音は全部 SONY MV1で撮影しております。

 

August 1st was the Reno Anniversary

On August first we organized parts of an Anniversary party for the fashion brand RENO in Tokyo.

We arranged the live painting so that it took place at the same time in two different rooms, but were eventually interconnected! The painting was done by Osaka artist Ayumi and spray painter AmL and designer Yabe Ray. We had a very special guest, an airbrush painter called Yoheyy to work with Ayumi on the cylinder type canvas.

That night we had dancers and DJs and also lots of live Music:
Tomo the Tomo, Lo-Fi, en

...and 2 dance groups and a Jpop singer. It was our first time doing a gig at the J-Pop cafe so we didn't know what to expect, but the atmosphere was pretty good and the Reno staff made the event really special! They had almost the whole line of clothing on display in the main hall inbetween the two event rooms and I really wish I had the time that night to check them out.

We finished that night with an unforgettable joint set with the Latin Rock band en and Lo-Fi. We did alternate versions of the Lo-Fi songs to accompany the paint.

大見さんに制作頂きました「渋アコ」のパフォーマンス映像。

７月１７日に渋谷のマークシティーエリア／中央街で開催した薬物乱用防止のイベント。

３角の柱になったキャンバスはそのエリアで合流する道と面を合わせて、

人々の表情や感情の多面性を表現し「自分を発見する」事をテーマに音も描くペインターに合わせてLo-Fiの曲とフリーにミックスしながら展開していくパフォーマンスです。

渋谷の中央街はネットワークも強く、様々のお店のご協力を頂きました。

This vid is an EXCELLENT video edit done by director and videographer Ohme Yoshihiro-san.

A very good independent artist. He did most of the camera work and all of the editing.

We painted this performance on a triangular pillar set in the middle of the street beneath the MARK CITY building adjacent from the Shibuya-CHUUOUGAI. The Chuougai is an area of Shibuya with many mom-and-pop shops that have been around , some for more than 30 years.

Now with the really fast changing pace of Tokyo, that's a real long time.

The local shops are places where the store keepers will learn your name and face if you go there a couple of times....

They really helped us get the stage and gear together to make this event happen.

The main purpose of the SHIBU-ACO painting event was to help promote prevention of drug abuse.

This was a pretty big problem in Shibuya a couple of years back where you had dealers all over the streets of Shibuya selling legal drugs. Legal but deadly nonetheless.

Anyway I don't want to go into a long discussion about what is right and what is wrong when it come to the topic of drugs, but we depicted and played music that connected with finding inner strength and finding out who you are.

This was our way of expressing how you don't need a chemical cocktail to bring out the best in you.

７月１７日は非常に多くの人にお集り頂き感動しました！

携帯写真を取られまくりのステージは人生初めてかも知れません。

いやー、多くのバンドステージは「見る」よりもは「聞く」事が多いだろうから。

Lo-Fi のライブや自分が手掛ける他のイベントでも全力を注いで、新しい体験のできる場を

作ろうとしています。お客様からのフィードバックも非常に重要な制作の過程だと思っているので、

それらを良い形で今回反映できたのではないかと思いました。

渋アコのイベントを通じて渋谷中央街のコミュニティー力等を感じられて、色々な事を考え直す一つの切っ掛けになりました。２００９年に入って急にキャッシュフローがおかしくなったビジネスが非常に多く、我々がイベントやライブをやる商業施設も大きな打撃を受けましたが、東京の賑やかな渋谷でも同じようなダメージがあるから色々な対策をとってビジネス的に勝負する必要があるんだろうな。。と感じました。

しかし、そこでただセールや抽選会をやって集客をするというのだけではなく、もっとコミュニティー全体に有益なNo Drugに向けての活動等にしたのが共感できた。

必ずしも今この活動が一番社会に最優先で必要だと確信しているという意味ではなく、一つのコミュニティが自分達が感じている課題を来月の決算書より大きな規模の動きを意識している事に協力をしたいという気持が湧きました。

結局ビジネスの繁栄で社会の価値は高まり人々の生活は潤うはずだが、生憎生き物全ては「価値観」が皆異なるから、なかなか「繁栄」もどっちに向っているのか分からない。そこでアーティストとして私たちの義務はその時代の記録だったり、今の声であったり、未来の予想をして抽象的な感情の鏡であるメッセンジャーだと思う。

今回の作品は街のシルエットを使ったり、抽象画と人の顔を組み合わせて人が自分の中から広がっていく感情や想い等を表現し、自分のアイデンティティーや強く生きるために必要な自分を発見する事を一部表現しています。

Lo-Fiが歌った曲で What We Fight Forや Make That Changeはまさにそいいうテーマを取り上げた曲です。

改めて今の新しい Lo-Fiサイトに歌詞も紹介したいと思います。今回取り上げたい歌詞の部分は：

don't wanna watch the world as it slowly dissolves

自分達はどこに向って、日々戦っているのか？

この曲はライブではなんどか演奏しているが、レコーディングはまだ公表できていないです。

On July 17th we had a nice crowd around the live painting we did in Shibuya and are grateful!

I think this may be the first time I've been photographed so much, considering the fact that music

is something people listen to not watch. Well at least I hope so.

The reason for all the photos is that we're not just doing a normal gig, we did it as a collaboration between

music and painting.

This time we used a 3 dimensional canvas an put it in the middle of the stage between me, Nori, and Yosh. This puts us in a position surrounding the canvas and the artists who are doing the live painting in sync with the music.

The Shibuya- chuuougai community helped make this event work, but providing the much needed resources!

This made me reflect on how the SHIBU-ACO event wasn't just like some sweepstakes to get people to shop there, but was aimed at achieving a larger goal. It was originally designed as an event to bring awareness to the community about drug abuse.

The effort that everybody put into this event, now in it's 5th year I guess has achieved their original goal in part. They got rid of the drug sales right in the middle of the Center-city of Shibuya. I'm not saying that this is the most important thing that we should be doing. Stopping drug abuse is important, but so is stopping violence and reviewing education policy and keeping national security, but it was something that the community chose. They chose it for themselves and took action to do something about it. I thought that was very encouraging in a time when it feels like there is so little we can do as individuals to change the course of the world.

I know that people are not very strong if we don't work together. If people combine their efforts, even if each individual has a very small part, a very very large force can change things eventually. I just hope that people don't forget the effect they have on their community.

Everyday I hear a lot of "No one cares what I do" "one man can't change the world". They may be right to a certain extent. But I don't think that it's true from a larger perspective.

No drug Campaign で何年も渋谷の薬物乱用防止に向けて

プロモーションしているイベントに TSUNAGUイベントのメンバーが招かれました。

自分探しと自分のIdentityについて表現している絵と

Lo-Fiの曲のセレクションから今回のキャンペンのテーマを応援したいと思っています。

今回は普通のライブペインティングに近い、

「曲」を演奏するスタイルでアプローチはしますが、

キャンバスが３次元タイプのデザインになるので非常に個性的なキャンバスです。

Shibuya has been promoting a "No drug" Campaign for a while now,

Lo-Fi has been invited to perform at their annual event along with our TSUANGU coliberation artists.

We'll be performing a piece that is portraying finding your identity and about inner strength... things that

we felt were a few of the important in keeping people out of addictions and misuse of drugs.

The stage will be set under the Mark City in Shibuya, you can refer to the map above in Google.

It's about a 2 minute walk from Shibuya Hachiko exit from the JR lines.

Date 'n time: July 17th Friday, 7:50 PM- 8:40PM

Entrance: No Fee, we are doing this for charity. Shibuya police station and city is also helping to fund this event

先日のTSUNAGUで一緒にコラボしたAYUMI.
彼女の積極的なアプローチが楽しくて何度も一緒にライブペインティングのイベントをやっている。また今度は５月２０日に目黒の「やさしいよかん」というギャラリーでやるぞ。

今回の音の内容としては今までの生サウンドを意識した物からもう少しartよりな実験的サウンドでアプローチしようかと。。。！前回のTSUNAGUでも面白いアプローチが見えたからね！

結局昨日は朝の４時ぐらいに帰って来た！

最高の夜をアーティストの皆様やお客様と一緒に過ごせて凄い感謝している。

今日も天気の良い日で久しぶりのオフとしてベランダでお茶しながら振り返っていたんだが、

本当に本当に駐車券を紛失した以外は最高の夜だった。

（駐車券の事ではご迷惑をお掛けしました）

出演してくれたアーティストと会場に遊びに来てくれたお客様には心から感謝です！！！

新しいパフォーマンスや演出への期待はプレッシャーだけど、良い部類のプレッシャーだと

いつも思う。

「期待」は信頼からも生まれる要素の一つだからね。バンド同士もそうだし、ペインター同士や

出演者みんなで色々お互いの空間を融合させたり、時には譲って一つの作品／ショーを仕上げたと感じている。

始めて参加するアーティストは新しい発見もあっただろうし、何度かコラボレーション出演をしてくださっているアーティストはまた新しい発見がいつもあるという事を再体験できたんじゃないかな。

昨日はSUPERDELUXEという最高の空間も十分に活用ができた御陰でTSUNAGUイベントを期待しているお客様も満足頂けたのではないでしょうか。「また来たい！」って言葉はお世辞でもうれしくて、次回のイベントはもっと凄い物にするぞー！っと思う。

２月２１日深夜から２２日に掛けてライブイベントFREEDOMが開催されて、深夜なのに（俺はスゲー深夜弱い）楽しかったよ！

メインアクトの一つで、 TSUNAGUでも KAORIと一緒にフィーチャーするアーティスト AYUMIの写真↑

今回のライブアクトとしてはLo-Fi も出演して、Chatter Box, さいとうりょうじ と共演した。
FREEDOMでは時間があまりなかったのでリハーサル無しで本番に入った。その関係で若干ステージのサウンドが聞き取り難い状況だったけど、時間帯とかサウンドチェック無しの本番にしては凄い良いライブ演奏だったよ。

ライブはやっぱりその場の雰囲気に大きく影響されるから、お客さんが別れているのが少し心配だった！

朝の４時過ぎだったので「眠い」と思っている人と「いぇい〜！！！うぉ〜〜〜う！！！♪」となっているお客さんが別れていた。。。いや＝静かにライブしたいにも、ダンスしている人もいたから、ノリを崩す訳にもいかん！！！う〜ん、もうこうなったらはじけてダンスしたい人達を満たす方向に後半はシフトした。。。

AYUMIのペイントは基本Lo-Fiのメンバーでサポートして展開をする事になったけど、普段のSOUL SOUNDのLo-Fiとは全然違うElectronica/Rock/アートサウンドだった。

ライブペインティング用リハ

昨日は今度の　Freedom と TSUNAGU イベントの為に準備していた数多くのリハーサルの写真をとってみた！

時間もかかる関係でプライベートのスタジオで何時間も掛けて作り上げる新しい感じのサウンドなので、ちょっとこれをリハーサルでやると結構疲れるかも。

でも凄い思い白いというのも同時になる。今回はペインターからライブペインティングのコミュニケーションツールになる描く時の感情やテンポ等を共有してから、スタジオでバンドのサウンドを作る。でも普通のLo-Fi等のバンドサウンドとは結構違うアプローチでリズム等も色々フリーに展開している部分も沢山アレンジしてみた。

もちろん当日にならないとペインターが何をどのように書くか？までの詳細は分からないけど、３人のバンドメンバーが表現を同時にだすので、お互いの音を通じての表現を確認し合う必要があった。

例えば、どのような合図でペインターの大きな筆や体の動きに合わせるか等を打ち合わせしていた。
