仕事のやりがいってなんだろうかと結構若い頃から皆が考えている事だと思う。
学生のごろはなんで勉強をしているのか、とかなんで学校に通っているのかと色々疑問に皆は思ったのだと思う。
そういうトピックを取り上げてトークをしている、発表者の話をTEDの動画で見る機会が最近あったので、少し紹介したくなった。動画はもちろん英語だから、人に寄っては字幕或は訳を表示して見る必要があるかもしれない。
要約するとポイントは簡単なポイントで、やりがいというのは金銭的なところだけではなく、どのような所にあるのか？
やりがいー＞自分へ意味（それが社会へ、コミュニティーへ、身の回り等に貢献する必要とされる等）が大きな要素だという事を話ている。既に皆が気づいている事だとは思うけど、改めてこのトークの実験話を聞いていて面白いと思った。
実験の一つでは、自分が努力して作ったものは金銭的な対価があるけど、作ったものがその場で解体されていく感覚などを話していて、非常に大切な話だと思った。
自分が仕事が金銭的対価があったにも関わらず如何なる理由であっても「意味ない物」となると挫折感に近い「やりがい」の低下を感じるだろう。
大きな意味では何をしていても誰かには意味があって、給与等を頂けて「意味の無い仕事」が存在できないから、自分のやっている仕事に皆が自信を持てたらいいなと本当に思う。組織の過渡期かも知れなくて消えていくポジションかも知れないけど、その瞬間を見れば重要な職種かも知れないし。コスト面では「無駄」な行動であっても、ビジネスの効率化を実現するためにはカットする必要の出てくる仕事だとしたら、それを可視化した自分の存在の意味もあるし、やりがいは本当はいろんな所に転がっていると思う。
このトークで俺が共感したのはやりがいの一つで自分とのつながりの大切さだと思う。
好きな仕事や好きな人の為に頑張る事は一番やりがいがあるんだと思う。
後数週間でGWにもなるし、今週も後半！ 仕事のやりがいを感じて皆も頑張れると最高だね！

I'm sure the point I'm making by writing about this topic needs no introduction, but "what motivates" is a topic I always talk about with my students and business team.
Once you lose sight of why your doing something. That task usually fails to complete it's mission. Because nothing is simply done just for the sake of doing it. A lot of times topics like this are discussed fervently but everyone is usually saying the same thing in different ways. (Everyone agreeing with each other without realizing it..!)
Anyway in this TED video Dan Ariely talks about how money isn't the key motivator and he introduces some experiments where people work harder or more depending on what it means to them. The connection with oneself seems like big part of why we do things.
Especially in Japan I have a feeling that many people do or don't do things out of fear, or out of social pressure to meet a certain norm.
It's quite rare that people would question a cultural or business standard that's widely accepted regardless of how they feel personally. Be it binge drinking at after hour Japanese "drinking parties" where "real" business deals are done. Or women being forced to wear skirts, make-up, and pour tea for males in the office as part of the business etiquette in Japan.
In Japan there's a long vacation at the end of April to the beginning of May called "Golden Week" it's still a few weeks away, but I hope everyone can find their personal motivation to work and make the most of it! It feels much better to love what you do.
I think it's a start to really dig into your interests and passions to find out what that is! I certainly have found my own passions but still I ask myself everyday if this is really what I want to be doing right now. If it is I keep going and feel good about it.
Even if there's no direct link with your profession and your passions, I think the fact that your hard work is for the ones you love and is supporting your lifestyle that's definitely a strong connection between your profession and passions.
