かなり長い付き合いだけど、実は5/31にはじめて一緒にステージに立った！なんか、近いスタイルの音楽をやっていたのに今になって始めてコラボしたのが不思議なぐらい。

Yesterday I went down to Kichijoji to record a radio show with a fellow musician from the same high school in New York.


We've been doing a similar style of music for a long time but never had the chance to perform together until last month! Had a great show and hope to invite him to perform at the Lo-Fi gigs too.

日本に来てから。After moving to Japan

今日は朝から結構忙しくレッスンや英詞のサポートの仕事が一日入っている日。

前にも少し書いたけど、人に教える事を通じて教える側もたくさんの学びがある、凄く有意義な時間だと思う。

音楽を作る理由と同じだけど、自分の能力をフルに発揮して人の力になれるのは充実していて、幸せだ。

自分はもう日本に来てハッキリ数えれてないかもしれないけど、もう多分15年近く経っている。

色んな人とであって色んな事を体験して、なんとなくだけど、自分の地元に感じられる場所に日本はなってきたのではないかとたまに思う。

今日も朝はジャズの散歩しながら考えていた。





日本にきて始めて住んだエリアは実は湘南で、凄く嬉しい事に今回リリースしたアルバムも藤沢の店舗、Tower Records藤沢店に自分の作ったCDが置いてあった。


"インディーズ学園"と、なんだかパンクな雰囲気なコーナーに並んでるのも個性的でいつもと違うリスナーにもも届くといいなと思った。

駅の近くのビルに入っているけど、実は学生のごろにはここの歩道橋の近くで学生の友達と一緒にストリートライブもたくさんやってきた。

懐かしいな。

なんか酔っ払いから¥5000もらったり、他のストリートで演奏している人と友達になったり。

そうだ、、、話は全然変わるが、全然遠い場所の札幌のライブも7/5-6と決まったからこれも皆に知らせたいな。

よし、今日も一日楽しもう。

Today is probably going to be a pretty busy day. I've got a lot of teaching to do and also some consulting for writing English lyrics.

Teaching is really one of the best experience for learning something yourself too. It's tremendously rewarding too.

To be part of someone's success story is a great feeling.


I have no exact idea of how long I've been in Japan now but it's almost 15 years I think. That's a pretty long time and finally I feel more comfortable as a part of the culture here.

I've met so many people experienced an many things while living here.

The first place I lived in Japan was Fujisawa, in the Shonan area. Recently our staff went to the Tower Records shop there to see how our CD was being displayed.

It was interesting to see they out us in the "School of Indie Music" corner with a very punkish design theme...!

Anyway when I first arrived in Japan we did a few street shows pretty close to where this shop is now. Didn't think I'd have my CD in the stores like this when I was playing out there as a student...


Well I better get going. Hope to update everyone about our shows on the 5th and 6th of July in Sapporo!

新作リリース！

どうも、ドラムです。
梅雨入りしたとかしてないとか言っておりますが、とにかく暑い季節が確実に近付いて参りました。
夏に向けて作ったわけではありませんが、気持ちが高揚するこの時期に有難いことに新作発表までこぎつける事が出来ました。
しかも、全国流通どころかCDショップ各店の視聴機にいれていただく事も叶いました。皆さん、ありがとうございます。
これからも、ヨロシクです。
んで、お店の方にお邪魔してまいりましたので、レポです。
今回はタワーレコード新宿店。
ここは新宿駅東南口出て直ぐのビルで複数フロアに展開してるかなり大きなお店。

なんとか間に合った！Somehow made it back in time!!

今日はレッスンが終わってから、湾岸の風になって横浜に行きました。

Rode like the wind to Yokohama after some intensive teaching!

何枚か既に売れていたと伺ったので、そんな方達と是非写真とか撮りたかったですね。

There was this listener checking out our album... i was watching intently to see her reaction.....
but unfortunately she didn't take it home..!

oh well! I wish I could have taken a shot with the people who bought the album earlier in the day according to the store clerk!!



The Lo-Fiのアルバムは新発売でセールじゃないですが、改装のためにセールをしているみたいです、横浜モアーズ店！

しかも！

嬉しかったのが、今度北海道で一緒にイベントに出演するJizueと一緒の並びに置いて頂きました、、、！

今日は店舗では新宿 Tower Recordsでも状況をメンバーが見に行って、こんな感じで試聴機にもCDが入っていて嬉しかったです！

Today we had the band members and staff check out all the stores in the Tokyo area… It was great to see so many stores have our CDs on display and in the listening booths!

結構遅い時間の２３時までやっていますので、どんなタイミングでもフラってよれるのがいいね。

 The Shinjuku Tower Records store is open until 23:00 so it's nice to know you can always drop in even pretty late at night….

Yosh dropped by the Machida store and they used what space they had to put our CD sideways so it can be seen by people looking for the album!

今日はメンバーの皆で店舗に販売されているCDを見に行きました！

渋谷のTower Recordsでは、着いてから、しばらくウロウロ、、、、

全然無い？？



と思ってご担当者のKさんから話をお伺いするとっ、、、！なんと、、、トラブル！


色々な偶然が重なって自分がたまたまサンプルもあったので直ぐにKさんがフォローを入れてくださいました！

今日は少しトラブルがあったけと、無事展開して頂けました！




嬉しいね！
こうやってリスナーの聴ける所まで届いてるのを見ると凄く感動する！




セクションも色々と分けて頂けて、Hiphop x Relaxというセクションに置いてもらって、テーマ的にいい感じだと思った！

やっぱり店でCDを買うのは楽しいし。

The members of Lo-Fi decided to take a walk around the CD stores in Tokyo to check out how our CD is doing!

So I went down to Shibuya to check it out Tower Records there..... but



The CD was nowhere in sight...!

I asked around and Mr.K on the 4th floor there was a really great guy and explained about none of the sample CDs arriving in time from Universal.... Luckily I was prepared!

He got the listening booths ready in no-time!!



It was great to be able to experience first-hand the service front where the final work of art reaches the listener!

I really recommend people to go down to a CD store that has a large selection like this to check out the cool music they've lined up!

Though we've got some rock tracks I like how they focused on the laid-back grooves like track 4 & 5 or Apple Tea...!

今日の朝、レッスン三昧 My morning and lesson after lesson...

今日の朝は昨日のライブから帰って、殆ど時間が経たない内に朝になっていた。




今日もJAZZとゆっくり外で散歩をしてから朝の準備をした。
そう！
今日がついにThe Lo-Fiのアルバムが全国のCD店舗で購入できるようになる日なのだ。
どんな状況なのか、生徒達にレッスンを教えた後には覗きに行く予定だ！本当にたくさんの方のサポートや自分達のサウンドに共感してくれる人達の熱意に感謝してます。
皆の応援のおかげで、作品も作り続けられる。また、作品に込めてる想いも、より多くの人に届けられる。それによって、一人でも多くの人に力を与えられて、幸せにできればと思う。




最近は色々な人達とコラボしてライブもしていて、新しいバンドの音がうまれそうな気もしている。
もちろん変化にはそれなりの痛みもともなう物だと理解している。
今はこのリリースを一つのキッカケにもっと多くの人達と接して、多くの人から学んで、次のステップに踏み出そうと思う！

Had a really long night... it was morning before I knew it.
Half awake but went for a long walk with Jazz at a park nearby.
Great cool day with lots of sun. Can't believe it's already the rainy season here in Japan.
Today is finally the release of the CD version of the Fortitude album in Japan. It's already in the listening booths so I'm looking forward help promote the record stores hard work in displaying our new tracks!
It's amazing all if the support we've gotten from everyone to finish this project and now to roll out the finished product.
Thanks to everyone who supports our music! I hope we can pay you back with more great music to come!

The Lo-Fi "Fortitude" physical CD release!

The Lo-Fiの最新アルバムFortitudeが6月5日に全国のCD店舗でリリースになります！

今までは自主リリースだったのがUniversal Musicのご協力で全国のファンが入手しやすくなりました！

The Lo-Fi's most recent album "Fortitude" will be available in CD stores nationwide from June 5th!

Thanks to the help of Universal Music we've been able to release our own independent album through their channels.



デジタルで音楽が簡単に購入できる時代には逆らった感じのリリースなので、こんなアルバムこそ購入して頂きたいですね。

In an age where digital formats of music are mainstream we've committed all we can to this media format.. the CD


AYUMIという大阪のペインターとコラボレーションで制作した盤やロゴ、カバーアートのデザイン。

音を聴き込んで、どんなイメージの曲かも共有して、ライブペイントのコラボレーションも数々一緒に実現してきて出来上がったアルバムアートです。

We collaborated with our favorite painter Ayumi who's done countless live painting performances with Lo-Fi globally.

After a in depth listen of our tracks and a lot of discussion we came up with the artwork for the album cover, booklet and CD.



ジャケットの中には数々のライブで演奏してきたライブの写真や大変お世話になってきている音響ハウスでのレコーディング風景も写っております。

アルバムの裏には東京湾をバックに。日本にきてもう15年ぐらいたち、この地で本当に数多くの方に出会ってお世話になってきて、なんか都会の中よりもこの大きな水がなんかそれを表してる気がして。

The back features a photo take near Tokyo bay. I've been in this city for 15 years now and have made so many discoveries and new friends and experiences in this big city. I felt the big body of water kinda matched the feeling of the big city.

スタジオで打ち合わせをして、After the meeting at the studio

先日おせわになっているスタジオの音響ハウスで打ち合わせをしていた時に嬉しい事にアルバムの並びにちゃんと The Lo-Fi のアルバムもあった！



しかも、タイジさんのシアターブルックのとなりに！まったく関係無いけど、ちょこっと嬉しいかったり！



最近は全然対バンはしていないなぁ、そういえば。元気なのかな。彼の方はノリノリロッカーでかっこいいね。

リリースまで後少しで、店舗にCDが並ぶからと何か変わるわけでは無いが、試聴機に入る事によってより多くの人に音が届くといいな。

今は生徒や友達で色々と苦しい時期を頑張っている人がまわりにいて、自分の音楽がその人達の支えになっていたりしていると聞くと凄く熱い気持ちを感じる。

次の作品ももちろんのこと、次のライブでもその人の支えになるエネルギーを発信したいと思う。

世の中はネガティブな気持ちを発信し続ける人もいるし、辛い事も多々あるけど、それにまけない愛情を育む事がとても大切だと思っている。

人間だから自分ももちろん、傷ついたり、怒ったり、緊張したり、諦めたりするけど、どこかで希望を持つ事が最後は自分も周りも救う力になるかと。どんな人からも学べる事はあるし、最後は自分の幸せにもつながる縁だろうからね。

そんな曲を書き続けて三つのアルバムも経て、ふとヨシに"もっと単純に楽しい曲もいいんじゃない？"といわれて色々な思いが頭を交差する。


その反動もあり、いろんなプロジェクトが動いているなかで忙しい状況ではあるが、


こう言うのは癒されるね。仕事の合間にバイクを停めた駐輪場にいた猫。

こうやって太陽を満喫出来る気持ちの余裕をもって色々と必要な事を進める事が大切だとおもう。

微妙に警戒されてるか！？

でも



やっぱりあんまり気にしてないふり。耳はメチャ意識してる感じで後ろ向いてた時もあったけどね。

さで、今日は事務的な仕事、アレンジなど忙しい日になるけど、がんばろ。

The other day when I was in a meeting at the studio, I was happy to find the Lo-Fi's new album "Fortitude" among the other albums recorded at the studio.

Having our album right next to big name artists is inspiring because in your mind you kind of compare your sounds subconsciously and imagine how listeners might compare the albums too.

One central theme in my albums is a message that I hope can help people confront challenges or rough patches in their lives. I'm sure we've all had our share of tough times. I've made a vow to turn those struggles into fuel for me to help other people get through their own tough times.

I've been writing a lot of songs around this idea. Around my own experiences too.

Sure I'm a normal human too, I get angry or sad or nervous or whatever but I never give up hope.

Never give up that things will get better.... that we can all work together to make the world a better place.

Anyway, recently I got some interesting feedback from Yosh "Why don't you just try writing something fun?"

It's so obvious I haven't written very many songs that are just "fun"... well that got me moving.
I'm doing multiple projects right now but I hope it all comes together into one big synergy!

My fever is completely gone now but am truly beat. So tired I've been really frustrated these few days.

Came upon this cat the other day, just chillin in a parking lot. Made me realize how tense I was with my pace of life.

It's great to meet someone outside of this rat race! Makes me think about my priorities, about what really makes me happy, or about if I'm really doing what's really important for me....

Anyway back to work...!

CDを出荷！Sending out the "Fortitude" CDs!

今夜は満月見たいで、綺麗な空だ。

いろんな時、空を見上げてるけど、いつも同じ場所にいても見上げた時の時間や日によって空は全然違う。

自分の気持ちによっても見え方は変わるんだろうな。

Looks like a full moon tonight. The sky is so different even if your in the same spot looking up depending not just on the weather but also how you feel.


いまやっと、CDのオーダーの出荷が終わり、帰るところ。

正直楽しかったけど、今日はかなり疲れる一日だったかな。

朝から打ち合わせや作曲の仕事を終えてからはひたすらCDにバーコードを貼る！！


Finally finished doing all the barcode sticker attachment for our CD orders!! Yup it's a bit challenging when your up TK your neck in other work, but also a very enlightening process.

If you think about it, these CDs are going to be in the hands of new listeners very soon. And here I am posting a little barcode on each single CD.

I know it's not accurate, but it sure feels like I'm adding some personal value to the CD for some reason LOL

In an age where people don't buy CDs I think I've made a pretty big investment in this album so I hope it's something everyone can enjoy!

Fortitude will be in stores all over Japan on June 5th!

今は車で鎌倉へ。

 

明日は有楽町でチャリティーライブを開催。

良くある事だけど、チャリティーというイベントはお金を集める為に何も準備が無い事が多く、今回も自分たちでドラムセットを手配する必要が。

でも俺は大体会場のセットよりもYoshのセットの方が音は好きだな。

このセットは前に Fortitudeをレコーディングしたときのセット。

実はキックは俺の所有している物。

 

マイク、、、多いな。

Now we're off to Kamakura to pick up Yosh drum set for tomorrow's show.

It's really common that when we do these charity gigs, saving money so we can donate it is a priority and the venue has no gear. This time we're going to do some shows in the beginning of April too so we decided to get the stuff loaded on my car.

The sound on Yosh's set is much better anyway. Here's a photo of the drum set up when we recorded the Fortitude album. Look at all those mics!

 

旅で出会ったすごいバイク！ An amazing motorcycle I came upon during my trip

昨日の帰りの東名で色々なバイクに出会ったけど、やっぱりすごいなと思ったのはこれ！

このバイクは本当にすごいバイクで、Ducati がレースに出しているバイクを限定で１５００台発売した数少ないバイクの一つ！
ライダーはDoctor (Valentino R)のレプリカジャケットも着てて、もっと話して見たかったな！
まぁ、８００万とかするバイクに乗る人は走り屋小僧には興味ないだろうけど、、、俺は相手に興味がある。

それとは全然違う話で以前は関越の方に向かった時には面白いライダーにあって、結局１時間ぐらいツーリングの話をレストエリアの自販機前でしたのだけど、大阪の方まで１２時間ぐらい掛けて一気に走るみたい。。。すごい昔のバイクでタイヤもツルツル（人の事は言えない、、、）でなんかライダーな感じの人ですごいインスパイアされてしまった！

いつも走りにいくと、近いエリアでも遠くの岡山の方でも色んな人にであえて楽しい。

これかは The Lo-Fi の Fortitude ツアーに行くのが楽しみだな。どんな人にであってどんな場所でライブができるんだろう！？

Here's a cool motorcycle that I found parked at a rest area on my way back from Nagoya. It's the Desmosedici RR race bike.
Only 1500 made and like 90 or so in Japan. These bike are pure racing machines like the ones used in the Moto GP races.

Crazy stuff!! But a beautiful bike. I wish I could have talked with the owner some more, but I don't think he was interested in chatting at all… maybe tired from all that power he's been sitting on!

I still remember one rider I met when I went out to the Kanetsu area. He was on his way back to Osaka a long 12 hour ride. He says he just goes out for this ride sometimes where he travels… non-stop… One tough dude…! Really inspiring to hear his travel stories.

Anywhere I go out to ride, even if its in the Tokyo area, or down south near Okayama… I always meet interesting people on my bike.

I can't wait to go out on tour with The Lo-Fi again for the new album Fortitude! We're finally getting into the details of the tour. 

ついにリリース！ Our new music video is online!

これです！ The Lo-Fi の最新アルバム Fortitude から Departure という曲のミュージックビデオをアップロードしました！長い時間がかかったけど、なんとか曲のイメージを映像にできました。今回は待望の日本語訳もついています！！！

Here it is! The Lo-Fi's new music video for the song "Departure" from our new album Fortitude.
It was a long time coming but I think we were able to put together a picture that goes well with the lyrics.


撮影は懐かしいかったな、、、カメラマンとスタッフがこの写真は写っています。
中央にあるのは手作りのクレーン！カメラマンはすごい！まだ彼のサイトは無いみたいだけど、完成したらまた紹介します。

早朝の江ノ島で撮影をした時もなんども同じルートを通りながらカットをしていました。

本当に寝不足のなか皆すごい頑張ってくれて感謝しきれません。

実は今回の撮影を色々している直前には大雪で、、、果たして撮影できるのかとみんなで話していました。しかし、今回は氷を上手く避けながら頑張って撮影しました。

雪以外にも実は裏ではトラブルがありました、、、この赤いバイクはDucatiの1098Sというモデルですが、、、欠陥が色々多いのです。今回は直前にラジエターが割れてしまい、交換が本当に本当にギリギリでした！

撮影チームと二台ともバイクは頑張ってくれました！

These few photos are a photos from the shoot itself! We had our cameraman build a homemade crane for some of the shots and we all got up at like 2AM to get to the shoot location. It was only a few days after the big snow storm in Tokyo so we had to keep as much of the snow as possible out of the frame...! Also was a big challenge dodging the ice patches while doing the riding.
