DUCATI Event visit

The other day I had some time to ride out to a Ducati event!

Met up with some good friends and also helped with my friend with his Alpinestars Booth.

It’s great to get out sometimes and enjoy the heat!

First ride!

(English below)

Came out for my first ride in almost a month!

It's a great feeling to be back on the bike again. But I'm definitely going to take it slow for now. Went out into the neighborhood to a local bakery where I'll be performing tonight.

The weather is great today. I'm sure it'll get hot in the afternoon but the morning is perfect.

I wonder if I'll be able to take that corner I crashed on the same way I took it before the crash. Crashing on anything can be traumatizing and it's damaging not only on the body but also the psyche.... Some people even give up riding.

Im glad getting into gear and in the saddle again felt so comfortable. Despite my monster being crazy unstable in idle and revving down... it was a great way to start my day.

Now to get ready for the show!!!!

Today's lunch!

Sodegaura race track

Today I came down to the Sodegaura Raceway to join a track meet with my monster 796.

Got up pretty early and after the morning meeting I did two runs and now I'm having lunch!

The weather looks like it's gonna hold. So hope to get some more laps in the afternoon!

When the going gets tough.. it'll get even tougher!

(English below)

To be honest, sometimes I feel like giving up.

These past few days have been really tough for me for several reasons, but I remember something my dog taught me.

"You can only live one second at a time". "now" is all we have. The past and future are just a part of our imagination that really is only an imaginary reference point or guide for helping us decide what to do "now". All of our enjoyment or happiness comes from how we feel at this exact instant.

I do miss my dog since I haven't seen her for a while now, but I'm happy that I was with her. I can't wait to see her again soon.

Today was another really busy day, but after teaching one more lesson I'll be back home to continue with some unfinished work.

I really want to thank everyone who is always cheering me on and supporting me no matter what. I hope to return their kindness by doing my best to help make others around me just as happy and successful!

This photo is a photo I took yesterday in the rain near my student's house.

The Sakura trees are really beautiful this time of year. I like how they look in the rain too…!

Finished the shoot!

Finished with the shoot in Daikanyama for a promo vid we're making for the April 26 show.

We did the shoot with Shu and Meyou from Jemstone. They're both really cool musicians and I'm really looking forward to performing with them in April. She has a  theme for this event we're doing called "Live=Love". It seems a little superficial at first but if you think about it, nothing in this world really "means" anything. We just add value to things that happen or people say because of these emotions or feeling we have for certain things. Anyway, today was great for riding!

Today I've been moving around on the 1098 again, even though Daikanyama isn't really that far away from where I live. I've been working on that trail-braking technique since Motegi. The rear brake is really hard to use if your not careful.

Now I better get ready for tonight's rehearsal with Lo-Fi!

We also have a show coming up this Saturday. If your in the Tokyo Area, please drop by. I'm helping a friend raise money for charity at the Foreign Correspondent's Club in Hibiya.

We're not even on the bill, but hey it's for a 'cause so why not help out right?

Track day at the Motegi race track

Yesterday I went out to the Motegi race track with a friend from the Gaijin rider's club and I had a great day off.

I finally got a really leather suit for an unbelievable price from a colleague that didn't need it anymore. It's definitely much better than the baggy leathers that I had before…!

I'm about to leave for a photo and filming shoot with my band.
Will update you guys on details with that soon!

One rehearsal after another

This is how I carry my gear around when on my motorcycle. The heavy stuff like my computer and iPad I try to keep in the tank bag (kreiga) and I have the bass in my back.

For some reason i hurt a neck muscle when I took my helmet off... it hurts like hell....!

Oh well one more rehearsal to go and I'll be on my way home to go for a walk with Jazz!

One crazy bike....

Dropped by Moto Corse in Shibuya to discover a crazy ride in the showroom.

金!
gold!

carbon!

titanium!

Every single part on the bike was custom order

yup even the brakes

It's gotta be crazy expensive to maintain a ride like this. I have no idea what makes one do stuff like this...! But it's fun to look at!

Saw this one on a different day... what's up with no license plates???

Touring in Izu!

The other day I went riding with a friend from the Gaijin Riders Club page on FB

We took a route from the Tomei to Atsugi exp way -> Toyo turn pike -> Izu skyline

met up at Ebina

Saw a dude rush into the bathroom. I had to snap a shot, not to make fun of him or anything.. but we all know how that feels right!?

Took a break at the end of the Toyo tires TP

It was a weekday but had a decent amount of traffic on the road

Lunch near Kawazu. Not memorable... at all

Had to head back here...

but my buddy got a great shot of the Sakura I could have seen!!!

Heard that they are doing a Sakura festival until Sunday!

Had a great time riding! Awesome weather too! Hope everyone who rides is getting their bikes ready!

Adjusting rear sets for the 1098

Had some time the other day to change the settings on my bike. After attending the suspension seminar http://www.carrozzeriajapan.co.jp/unoperuno/susclass/index.html I'm paying more attention to how the bike handles. So I've been fiddling with the settings to find something comfortable for the local inner city streets.

Likewise I've been changing the foot positions on my ride. I still haven't found something perfect but close enough.

Having these foot pegs / rear sets are really great since they grip your feet so much better than the stock ones, making it much easier to control the bike and also to ride safely of course!

IMG 2733

Though it might be a good idea once in a while to take photos of myself too huh… this is the tripod I use. Attached to a water pipe in the garage

Stay on the seat or off? Which style are you?

(English post below)

Finished teaching and now off to a meeting with my band manager…..
We've got a serious!! meeting planned. I hope I don't get too tired for the rehearsal I'm looking forward to afterwards.

Anyway, which type of rider are you? When you refuel do you get off the bike to leave room for the service staff to do it or do you stay on the bike? In Japan it's common to have fueling staff refuel your ride for you.

I like to stay on the bike so that it can be filled all the way, than when it's on the side-stand. (I know it's only a minuscule difference)

As long as you have access to your credit card, it's faster too to stay on the seat than get off and on.

I remember asking all these kinds of questions to my instructor when I got my motorcycle license a while back.
I bombarded them with private questions too like "What was your most recent accident?" "What kind of motorcycle do you ride?" just because I was so eager to learn more about motorcycles and riding.

Anyway my recommendation for getting a license in Japan is the Hinomaru-driving school near Meguro and Ebisu.

I don't think that they can teach in English, but they have good staff is Japanese is not a problem for you!

Feb 26, 2013

Good morning! Started the day with lessons, maybe some private time in the evening

Starting the day with a good meal is really important.

No food -> no will

But I think that from what I've learned WHERE you get the calories for your day and the timing you get them is really important.

So why this picture of unhealthy bacon?!? Well just a reminder that we all need some enjoyment in what we eat. Not just variation for health reasons but for mental enjoyment of food.

IMG 2848

Anyway here's another example. One of my favorite… chocolate cake!
I think the point here is that this is only 1/3 of the large slice of cake that I originally bought from the store.
I didn't go for it in one go….! One cake-> three times the joy …. LOL

IMG 2846

In the afternoon yesterday I needed to pick some stuff up from a friend so I dropped by Ebisu.

There I was able to see another  1098! Awesome custom parts and great fairing art work. Race style…!

Anyway looking forward to enjoying the great weather today!

Hope to hit the sack early tonight…!

Morning practice -> Suspension adjustment -> jogging

This morning I woke up and went straight to my bass. I'm really keen about working on muscle endurance. I'm working on some new songs, they are instrumentals…. that means I'm playing a lot more bass than when I'm playing behind singers or other bands. Although I must admit it doesn't feel any different in my mind, but physical I just play less notes.

IMG 2807

BTW this is the metronome app that I use.

IMG 2809

After the morning practice I went out to the OHLINS dealer in the Setagaya area to attend their seminar.

IMG 2814IMG 2812

above is the a photo of the speaker demonstrating the compression and rebound settings.

on the right are photos of the damper piston and the spring disks to adjust the flow of the oil

IMG 2821

Here's a photo of us together measuring the sag on the suspension.

After all the talks and the explanations my impression…. The staff at this place are really tired! I mean they were nice and all… but so uninterested in talking with you… that I just thought maybe I should take myself somewhere else.

I'd recommend overhauling your suspension over at Moto Corse in Shibuya or at the Ducati Tokyo Ohta where I can talk to some great staff who are always willing to help you out.

An amazing motorcycle I came upon during my trip

P1040157

Desmosedici http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducati_Desmosedici

Here's a cool motorcycle that I found parked at a rest area on my way back from Nagoya. It's the Desmosedici RR race bike.
Only 1500 made and like 90 or so in Japan. These bike are pure racing machines like the ones used in the Moto GP races.

Crazy stuff!! But a beautiful bike. I wish I could have talked with the owner some more, but I don't think he was interested in chatting at all… maybe tired from all that power he's been sitting on!

I still remember one rider I met when I went out to the Kanetsu area. He was on his way back to Osaka a long 12 hour ride. He says he just goes out for this ride sometimes where he travels… non-stop… One tough dude…! Really inspiring to hear his travel stories.

Anywhere I go out to ride, even if its in the Tokyo area, or down south near Okayama… I always meet interesting people on my bike.

I can't wait to go out on tour with The Lo-Fi again for the new album Fortitude! We're finally getting into the details of the tour.

Pancakes, sunny skies, and motorcycles...

Today I made pancakes from being in such a good mood relieved to be back from my long trip. It's been a week since I last rode my 1098S... missed it a lot! So I rode it hard this morning and dropped by one of my favorite shops in Shibuya, the Moto Corse shop.

We were talking while they were changing my tires and I found out I got less than 1mm left on by brake pads... So sad! More money out the door...

Grateful that I've got lots of work toward the end of the month to help pay for my motorcycling life!!
Hope I get booked for a few more shows next month. Hmm I haven't worked as a live guitarist for ages... oh well I love playin the bass!

Work hard, ride hard, and life is great.
