初乗り First ride!

今日はかなり久しぶりのバイク。
色々と体はまだ完全じゃないけど、少し近所を走って見ようと、今日の夜のライブ会場まできてみた！



昼はかなり暑くなりそうだけど、朝はまだ気持ちがいい。




コーヒーのみながら、考えてた。

やっぱり死ぬかも知れない大きなクラッシュがあると少し乗るトラウマとか抱えるのかなぁとか。
もちろん、前にもクラッシュはあるからどんな風に向き合うのかはわかる気がするが、やっぱり走るのは最高に気持ちがいい。

バイクも久しぶりで、エンジンがかなり不調 笑

ゆっくりとリハビリだね！
今夜のライブに向けてあと少ししたら、準備開始だ。

Came out for my first ride in almost a month!

It's a great feeling to be back on the bike again. But I'm definitely going to take it slow for now. Went out into the neighborhood to a local bakery where I'll be performing tonight.

The weather is great today. I'm sure it'll get hot in the afternoon but the morning is perfect.

I wonder if I'll be able to take that corner I crashed on the same way I took it before the crash. Crashing on anything can be traumatizing and it's damaging not only on the body but also the psyche.... Some people even give up riding.

Im glad getting into gear and in the saddle again felt so comfortable. Despite my monster being crazy unstable in idle and revving down... it was a great way to start my day.


Now to get ready for the show!!!!

今日はサーキット！結構早くに起きて、出てきました。



袖ヶ浦のフォレストレースウェイ。まずはミーティングでコースの説明や旗の説明！

コースを覚えるための二回の走行が終わって早速ランチをあじわってる。



今日は雨がふらなさそうで、良かった！

モンスターでサーキット走るのはまた面白い！


Today I came down to the Sodegaura Raceway to join a track meet with my monster 796.

Got up pretty early and after the morning meeting I did two runs and now I'm having lunch!


The weather looks like it's gonna hold. So hope to get some more laps in the afternoon!

MOTEGIサーキット走行。 Track day at the Motegi race track

昨日は友達と一緒にMotegiでサーキット走行にまた挑戦！

今回は自分のダボダボの革じゃなくて、先輩から譲ってもらったちゃんとしたスーツでめちゃくちゃ走りやすかった。

Motegiのサーキットはスピード凄い早くて慣れないなぁ、と思いながら先生のアドバイスを聞きながらサーキットのラインを聞く事ができた。

 

今日は今からバンドのある撮影に行ってきます！

Yesterday I went out to the Motegi race track with a friend from the Gaijin rider's club and I had a great day off.

I finally got a really leather suit for an unbelievable price from a colleague that didn't need it anymore. It's definitely much better than the baggy leathers that I had before…!

I'm about to leave for a photo and filming shoot with my band. 
Will update you guys on details with that soon! 

リハーサル連チャン。One rehearsal after another

今日はバイクでリハーサルへ移動。朝は翻訳の仕事とWebの仕事もあってなんかバタバタしてたけど、やっと音楽に集中できる！


ベースとパソコンもこんな風にリハーサルに今日は運んでました。

いやーしかも、何故かヘルメットを脱いだときに筋肉を怪我したかも！くだらないけと、
メチャクチャいたい！！！！

よし、引き続き頑張るぞ！
夜はまたJAZZと散歩。



This is how I carry my gear around when on my motorcycle. The heavy stuff like my computer and iPad I try to keep in the tank bag (kreiga) and I have the bass in my back.

For some reason i hurt a neck muscle when I took my helmet off... it hurts like hell....!

Oh well one more rehearsal to go and I'll be on my way home to go for a walk with Jazz!

この前気に入っているバイクショップのモトコルセにいったら、店内にお客様のバイクでかなり凄い車両に遭遇！

It's gotta be crazy expensive to maintain a ride like this. I have no idea what makes one do stuff like this...! But it's fun to look at!

ステップ調整 Adjusting rear sets for the 1098

先日バイクのセッティングを色々といじるタイミングがあった。

サスペンションのセッティングについて色々と説明会で話を聞いてから、敏感になって色々設定を変えてみている。

走りながらもう一つ気になっているのは足の置く場所。ここのポジションによって乗り心地やコントロールできる感じが全然違う！

でも一番大きいのは足の裏へのグリップ間や、ヒールガードの固さによる足の固定感かな。

Had some time the other day to change the settings on my bike. After attending the suspension seminar http://www.carrozzeriajapan.co.jp/unoperuno/susclass/index.html I'm paying more attention to how the bike handles. So I've been fiddling with the settings to find something comfortable for the local inner city streets.

Likewise I've been changing the foot positions on my ride. I still haven't found something perfect but close enough.

Having these foot pegs / rear sets are really great since they grip your feet so much better than the stock ones, making it much easier to control the bike and also to ride safely of course!

レッスンが終了して、これから打合せに向かうところ！

このまえ仕事で出ているときに給油した時の写真：

バイクのりの皆はどうやって給油しているのかな？日本は有人で給油する所がまだ多いし、自分は実はバイクから降りない事が多い。支払いの財布へのアクセスさえできれば、そのまま座っている方がタンクが満タンになるからと思って。

本当はそんなに差はないのかな？

たまに、バイクの後ろにつけている鞄に財布が入っている時は降りて給油も。

昔俺が教習所にいってた頃、教官の方にこんな感じのどうしょうもない事を沢山聞いたな。

「どんな事故をした事があるのか、、、」とか「今乗っているバイクは？」とか色々とプライベートの質問も沢山きいた。

この写真に写っているのが日の丸自動車の教習所。
バイクの免許を考えている人はここが都内のアクセスがよくておすすめです！

最近は教官が少なくて前程申し込みからスムーズにとれるか分からないけど、自分が前に行ってた頃は非常に親切で女性の教官もいたので、どんなライダーもサポートできるというイメージがありました。

今からの打合せはバンドの今後の予定と、、、、うーん。難しい話も！笑

 

楽しいリハーサルが楽しみだ。

 

 

Finished teaching and now off to a meeting with my band manager…..
We've got a serious!! meeting planned. I hope I don't get too tired for the rehearsal I'm looking forward to afterwards.

 

Anyway, which type of rider are you? When you refuel do you get off the bike to leave room for the service staff to do it or do you stay on the bike? In Japan it's common to have fueling staff refuel your ride for you.

I like to stay on the bike so that it can be filled all the way, than when it's on the side-stand. (I know it's only a minuscule difference)

As long as you have access to your credit card, it's faster too to stay on the seat than get off and on.

 

I remember asking all these kinds of questions to my instructor when I got my motorcycle license a while back.
I bombarded them with private questions too like "What was your most recent accident?" "What kind of motorcycle do you ride?" just because I was so eager to learn more about motorcycles and riding.

Anyway my recommendation for getting a license in Japan is the Hinomaru-driving school near Meguro and Ebisu.

I don't think that they can teach in English, but they have good staff is Japanese is not a problem for you! 

おはよう！今日も朝からレッスン、夜は自分の時間か？ Good morning! Started the day with lessons, maybe some private time in the evening

朝のスタートのご飯は大事。

何も食べないと何もする気持ちになれない。

でも最近自分の食事を気をつけるようになってから凄い気づいた事がある。

カロリーとか考える事はそんなに重要ではなく、どういうタイプの食事をいつしているかという「質」と「タイミング」が凄く大切だと！

と、いいながら写真はいきなり栄養の少ない、カロリーの高い、健康に悪いベーコン、、、、！！！笑

 

Starting the day with a good meal is really important.

No food -> no will

But I think that from what I've learned WHERE you get the calories for your day and the timing you get them is really important.

So why this picture of unhealthy bacon?!? Well just a reminder that we all need some enjoyment in what we eat. Not just variation for health reasons but for mental enjoyment of food.

でも、結局はそういう事だろう。というのはバランスはメンタルのバランスもあって、食事を楽しめるポイントが入っているのも重要なのかも？

だから暖かい食べ物や、豆を中心にタンパク質をえてるのであれば、たまには肉を食べるのもいいバランスだと思う。

Anyway here's another example. One of my favorite… chocolate cake!
I think the point here is that this is only 1/3 of the large slice of cake that I originally bought from the store.
I didn't go for it in one go….! One cake-> three times the joy …. LOL 

 

こんなうまそうなケーキも自分でイチゴを添えて用意したり、、、！と楽しんでいたりもする。

ポイントは、これは実はもっと大きなケーキを分割して味わっています。

一つのケーキを３度！！！！！と熱い思いでケーキを楽しんでいる自分。

 

昨日は仕事の帰りに少し荷物を友達から預からないと行けなかったので、恵比寿へ。

なんとそこで：

同じ１０９８に遭遇！！！めちゃくちゃ嬉しかったです。

しかも同じマフラーのカスタムにしていたし（といってもDUCATIのマフラーは結構TERMIGNONIばっかか、、、）

なんといってもレースのフェアリング／カウルがいいね。タイヤもサーキット？で走った感じで解けているSuper Corsaを履いていた。

 

今日もどんな一日になるのか楽しみだ！いい天気だから皆も移動やら、外で仕事の人もいるだろうけど、沢山味わって欲しいな！

夜は早く寝ようっと。

 

 

In the afternoon yesterday I needed to pick some stuff up from a friend so I dropped by Ebisu.

There I was able to see another  1098! Awesome custom parts and great fairing art work. Race style…!

Anyway looking forward to enjoying the great weather today!

朝練→サス調整→ランニング Morning practice -> Suspension adjustment -> jogging

今日の朝は朝起きて何も考えずに楽器と向き合う朝だった。

最近ハマっているのは手の筋トレ！結構沢山のスピードやコントロールの練習をしていたが、最近書いているインストの曲をやっている時に感じる体力不足？の影響で。。。ベーシストとしてサポート等で演奏する時のプレイとリード楽器としてメロディーやソロを弾くベースのアプローチが（本当は同じだけど）結構違うから最近演奏の体力のギャップを感じる事も増えてきた。手の筋肉が落ちやすくなったのかと不安になったから耐久性の筋肉トレーニングを頑張っている。

 

This morning I woke up and went straight to my bass. I'm really keen about working on muscle endurance. I'm working on some new songs, they are instrumentals…. that means I'm playing a lot more bass than when I'm playing behind singers or other bands. Although I must admit it doesn't feel any different in my mind, but physical I just play less notes.

ちなみにメトロノームはiPhone、、、！

BTW this is the metronome app that I use.

朝の練習が終ったら、環八添いにある UNO PER UNO http://www.carrozzeriajapan.co.jp/unoperuno.htm で自分の１０９８Sのサスペンションを見てもらい、サスペンションに関する講習会をして頂きました。２０００円の参加料だけど、この２０００円はそこでサスペンションの作業を依頼するとその２０００円は還元してくれる、、、というスタイルです。

サンプルのリア TTX サスのダンパー設定を変更する感じも体験できたし、右の写真のピストンの穴や「パネ」となるウァッシャー見たいな金属のプレートも見れた。

 

After the morning practice I went out to the OHLINS dealer in the Setagaya area to attend their seminar.

まぁ、今回の測定の感想は、、、スタッフが大変お疲れでした、、！！という感じかな。

説明は非常に勉強になったけど、なんかビジネスがきっとライダーも減っているから大変なのかなぁ、、、って思ってしまった。

前にMoto corse渋谷でメンテナンスしてもらった時にはスタッフが非常に熱心でいろいろな変な質問をしても親切に対応してもらえたのが記憶に残っている。タイヤ交換も確かに工賃が他よりも若干高かったが、ガラス張りのガレージで作業してくれて作業が見えるところでも本当に丁寧に作業してくれてた。

もちろんいつもお世話になっているDucati東京大田でもガレージで作業を見ながら全然フランクにいろいろと説明してくれていつも勉強になっている。

サスペンションはオーバーホールが必要だけど、実際どこでお願いしようかな。。。いろいろな意見をいろんなショップで聴いてみるけど、

やっぱり接客が安心するところか、スタッフと仲良しなところが一番安心でいいかな！

 

 

After all the talks and the explanations my impression…. The staff at this place are really tired! I mean they were nice and all… but so uninterested in talking with you… that I just thought maybe I should take myself somewhere else.

I'd recommend overhauling your suspension over at Moto Corse in Shibuya or at the Ducati Tokyo Ohta where I can talk to some great staff who are always willing to help you out.

日本のサイトでは全然情報が見つからなかったけど、モンスターの７９６の車高を高くするために今回はサスペンションの上の方にパーツを取り付けました。このパーツは実際新しいパーツと１cmぐらいの差しかないけど、シートの高さは２cm程変わる。M１１００のclevisをM796に取り付けたのである。

実際座ってみて、結構前の低いハーレーみたいな感じから座りやすい状況になりました！ クレヴィスというパーツで、なかなか日本のブログとかパーツの販売サイトにはのっていない。。。英語では clevisと書きます。

やっぱりバイク関連の事でも英語の方が情報が沢山見つかって便利だな、、、

バイクにくっついている時はこうやって見える。穴の上の方に見えてるのがそうです、、、見え難いか、、、

他にバイクの乗り心地で変わるポイントとしては、キャスター角が変わる事によって曲がる感じが変わります。

もちろんバンク（バイクを傾けた時の角度）をしてパーツを引きずり難い事も嬉しい。
何故か左側のサイドスタンドはしょっちゅう引きずってしまって、びっくりしてしまう。

 今日は色々と仕事の打合せもこのバイクで移動したけど、快適でした！サスもプリロード調整したおかげで沢山動いてくれているし！

さて、キャスター角は英語ではレイクといいます。これはなに！？？！？！

Today I got a change to change the clevis part connecting the top of the suspension to the frame of the bike.

It lifts the suspension on the bike about 2cm higher. That makes a lot of difference in the handling of the bike if you consider the rake angle changing from the higher suspension. I happened to adjusted the preload of the rear suspension recently so I feel I just canceled out the lower height by using this part.

It handles great and feels really comfortable now. Check out the link above to see how rake and trail works. In Japan, "rake" becomes "caster"...

 

今日もいい天気！だから、パンケーキ。Pancakes, sunny skies, and motorcycles...

長い旅から帰ってきて、休んだら直ぐにまたWebの仕事を昨日はやっていたけど、今日は起きて気分が最高！


そういう時はパンケーキ！しかも、少ない量を作ろうとしたら失敗も！焼くのうまくいくのになぁ。

天気もいいので、一週間も乗れなかった1098Sに久しぶりにまたがった。タイヤもパンク修理を無理やしてスリップサインも出てて、これ以上走ると死ぬかもと思ったりしながらまた走りまくった！

モトコルセのショップによって少し話をしてたら、ブレーキパッドの話になり、、、もう一ミリも残ってないと、、、！ショック、、、涙

死にたくないのでとりあえずこれも交換、、、、
ちょっと前に頼んでたタイヤも交換だったから。とんでもない金額になってしまった。今月末は激務の仕事が入ってて良かった。と変に支払い額をみて、カレンダーを見てホッとしたり 笑








ホイールもブレーキキャリパーも綺麗に掃除してくれて、かなり安心のモトコルセサービス！

タイヤの入荷の電話は完全に忘れたれてたけど、、、ま、頑張って作業を直ぐにやってくれたので、No problemでした。

Today I made pancakes from being in such a good mood relieved to be back from my long trip. It's been a week since I last rode my 1098S... missed it a lot! So I rode it hard this morning and dropped by one of my favorite shops in Shibuya, the Moto Corse shop.

We were talking while they were changing my tires and I found out I got less than 1mm left on by brake pads... So sad! More money out the door...

Grateful that I've got lots of work toward the end of the month to help pay for my motorcycling life!!
Hope I get booked for a few more shows next month. Hmm I haven't worked as a live guitarist for ages... oh well I love playin the bass!

Work hard, ride hard, and life is great.

意外とタイヤが、、、 Flat? tire tread

今回はかなりの距離を移動したから、タイヤが珍しく平に減り始めた！いつもはバイクを常に斜めに倒し走らせてるから、今回のような高速移動はやっぱりタイヤにくせがつくね。




この写真だとわかりにくいか、、、でも、触ってみると良くわかる。最近のタイヤはコンパウンドで真ん中はもう少し硬めのゴムを使ったりして耐久性も上がってるらしいが。

俺の使っているタイヤはPirelliのスポーツよりのタイヤのグレード低めの Rosso II というのを履いている。タイヤも色々なメイカーで色々な特徴があって、選び方には迷うね。いつも店に相談してる。

Ducati Tokyo Ohtaではかなり親切にチューニングも含めて相談に乗ってくれるメカニックもしてる？担当者がいます！たまに大田のブログを更新してる原田さんという方なので、是非Ducatiの大田の店にいくなら彼に相談するといいですよ！

バイクにのると色んな事を勉強しないと安全に楽しくは乗りこなせないけど、これがまた本当に楽しくてライティングを通じて得られる自由は計り知れないもの。

音楽のインスピレーションもかなりバイクにのってからの経験も多い。

最近は免許取得のサポートも各種ディーラーでやってるので、迷ってたら今がチャンスだと思います。


If you take a look at the photo of my tires you can almost see that the treading wear is a little flat...? I don't usually get this kind of wear riding in Tokyo, so it was a little surprising to see.

I use Pirelli Rosso II tires on the Monster and am pretty happy with the way it handles. Always need to put wear and grip in the balance with how your planning to ride. Naturally on the Superbike 1098s I wear a more sports orientated tire.

I always discuss my questions about the bike to my favorite mechanic who works at the Ducati Tokyo Ohta shop! Harada is his name, really cool guy. Ask him about stuff and he'll be happy to help with a perspective of a serious sports rider.

Getting your license in Japan is tough, but with all the places to ride and great A class roads everywhere it's well worth the effort!

ついにリリース！ Our new music video is online!

これです！ The Lo-Fi の最新アルバム Fortitude から Departure という曲のミュージックビデオをアップロードしました！長い時間がかかったけど、なんとか曲のイメージを映像にできました。今回は待望の日本語訳もついています！！！

Here it is! The Lo-Fi's new music video for the song "Departure" from our new album Fortitude.
It was a long time coming but I think we were able to put together a picture that goes well with the lyrics.


撮影は懐かしいかったな、、、カメラマンとスタッフがこの写真は写っています。
中央にあるのは手作りのクレーン！カメラマンはすごい！まだ彼のサイトは無いみたいだけど、完成したらまた紹介します。

早朝の江ノ島で撮影をした時もなんども同じルートを通りながらカットをしていました。

本当に寝不足のなか皆すごい頑張ってくれて感謝しきれません。

実は今回の撮影を色々している直前には大雪で、、、果たして撮影できるのかとみんなで話していました。しかし、今回は氷を上手く避けながら頑張って撮影しました。

雪以外にも実は裏ではトラブルがありました、、、この赤いバイクはDucatiの1098Sというモデルですが、、、欠陥が色々多いのです。今回は直前にラジエターが割れてしまい、交換が本当に本当にギリギリでした！

撮影チームと二台ともバイクは頑張ってくれました！

These few photos are a photos from the shoot itself! We had our cameraman build a homemade crane for some of the shots and we all got up at like 2AM to get to the shoot location. It was only a few days after the big snow storm in Tokyo so we had to keep as much of the snow as possible out of the frame...! Also was a big challenge dodging the ice patches while doing the riding.
