We are now on our way back from a show we did in Osaka with Ayumi. It was an event for a brand with a long history in Osaka. They’re called “El Rodeo” and have a 30+ year history in Osaka. It was amazing to hear about the long history of the event itself as well. We are participants in the 31st year of the event.
The night started out with a live painting jam to create a dress for one of the EL Rodeo Models. The canvas had the clothing textile pinned on to it, and as the painting finishes on the canvas it’s peeled off and turned into a dress sewn together on the stage.

“Like The Sunshine” is a new song I recently wrote inspired by some of the themes of Ayumi’s paintings.

Making the Ayumi x Lo-Fi collaboration video with the MV1
How did we film this live-painting video collaboration with Ayumi?
We used the Sony MV1 recorder of course, but also put a lot of camera tools to use to get the sounds and angles that we wanted to create this piece.
The band performance was one part of the filming that we really wanted to get a "live" sound with the reverbs and environmental noise of the live painting setting.
With the MV1 we were able to capture all of this at once and it really helped bring the painting sounds to the forefront!

Ayumi x Lo-Fi x Sony collaboration!
So the long awaited new music video is finally here!
やっとビデオがリリースされました！
It's a collaboration between our band and painter Ayumi.
She's a unique painter in Japan that mixes street art styles with stained glass and acrylic paints to create a mishmash of different tastes with a uniting theme linked to emotions.
Like music it captures a feeling that we have like a record of our emotional past.
We tried putting the painting and music together to a high degree by recording the painting sounds themselves as an instrument. This was made possible by using the Sony HDRMV1 camera to film and record at the same time.
All the footage you see in our clip is from the MV1, same goes for the sound!
NOTHING was recorded on another recording device...!
The story of this video is about being isolated and alone, but by creating something, it brings people together.

全ての映像と音は実際の絵を描きあげる過程で発生する音とLo-Fiの楽曲を合わせて曲にしました。

Drum recording with the MV1
So here’s a video of me explaining how we recorded the drums for the new music video from Lo-Fi “Keep On Smiling"
We were recording the music along with the video footage on location and I must say that it was a really interesting experience. In the past I’ve only done the standard way of recording for a music video…. doing the music in the studio and then doing the filming on location.

It was great to be able to write arrange and record the sound in the environment that we’d be filming in. Sure there was more pressure on us that we only had one shot and it was sweltering hot or windy or whatnot to make things difficult, but it was easy to “get into the zone” for recording that piece.
If you haven’t tried this kind of recording before I really recommend it.
It was fun and also inspiring when we wrote the music. Sure… you won’t be able to do more than 2-3 takes since it’s so hot.. or the tide would rise up into the kick drum… but I think we were able to record some interesting stuff.
Hopefully we’ll get some more interesting material released soon!

実際映像を撮影する環境で音楽を録音した経験は人生初めてで、すごいチャレンジも多かったけど、、、暑かったり、潮が急に満ちて機材が溺れたり、環境の理由で２−３テークしかできないけど、こういう場所だからこそできたレコーディングもできたと思う。

Happy New Year!
Another wonderful start of the year.
Enjoying some great weather and a very quiet retreat away from the city madness….!
Was off the grid for most of the winter vacation and recharging for the New Year.

２０１４年もあっという間に過ぎて２０１５年になった。しばらくインターネットや電話のネットワークに接続されていない日々を過ごして、充電していました。なんだかメールを数時間おきに確認をする毎日に疲れてしまっているのだと思った。

Keep on smiling... 新しいビデオについて

So the long awaited video was finally uploaded and shared!
"Keep on smiling"…..
A lot of work was put into making this video, and we really hope everyone enjoys the beautiful beaches and energy we got from the island that we put into the music.
We did all of the recording and writing on Iheya Island Okinawa.
It was a beautiful experience and definitely one of the most memorable!
I know that it’s not obvious from the video, but the recording of the sound was done on location as we were filming the video. This was an attempt to try something new to get the FEEL of the vibes we got from the island into the sound.
With all the beach wave sounds, to the ocean breeze…. all on the tracks we mixed together.
The song is about something really simple. Being happy.
Being happy is another story… not so simple….!
Anyway… enjoy!

Keep On Smiling という新曲のビデオがついにリリースしました。
夏の終わりに撮影に入って、どの映像や音を使うか選択して、編集やミックスの作業を色々と頑張った結果、本当にいい映像を作る事ができました。
今回の曲のタイトルの意味は 「笑顔を絶やさないで」という意味で、
曲のテーマは「今を生きる」「環境に振り回されない」「幸せとは」
映像はとにかく気持ちの良い感じを強調して作成しています！
撮影の特徴は、映像を撮影したカメラで実際流れている音も同時に収録しているというリアルな感じをとても大切にしてます。
２３台のカメラ（Sony HDRMV1）を時には同時に使って、映像撮影と同時に各楽器にまた別途複数台のカメラを取り付けて録音をしている。

夏はまたビーチへ！ Who said the summer was over??

昨日夜決定したライブ、、、また大好きなSurfer'sに出演します！
ちょっと前まで、信号機がかろうじて一つだけある離島にいたなんで、、、不思議だね。
色んな友達が増えた最高の時間だったな！
この写真は宿の家族がフェリーまで送ってくれた時の写真！宿の経営してる旦那様がギタリストで、夜は子供が部屋を破壊する中、ロックなセッションもした。
Can't believe we were on a desolate island just a few days ago....

なんと、村の祭りにも顔を出して、舞台も見ることができた
we had a short opportunity to see a short play at the local festival
今回の空撮チームは本当に楽しいメンバーだった！早くまた一緒に次のプロジェクトもやりたい。ビデオが出来上がったら今回の撮影してくれた、スカイトライアルの校長も皆に紹介したい。
This time we had "Sky Trial" do our Aerial videography... the principal of this school for flying is a really cool and funny guy...
それにしてもたくさんの機材を運びまくったなぁー、、、
Man, did we haul a sh@t load of gear....
まだまだ色々と文化を感じたい場所だった
A lot to see in Okinawa. Going there for the shoot, I really wish I had more time to learn about the local culture more

伊平屋島 Iheya Island ... Filming
本島でしばらくドライブしてからフェリー。
After a long drive on the mainland Okinawa island we got on the ferry to Iheya island
到着はかなりワクワクした。
撮影チームの Ichi と Tatsuro も見ての通り、盛り上がってます。
The team Ichi and Tatsuro were definitely psyched to finally arrive. Especially in such awesome weather.
メチャクチャ海は綺麗。
山も綺麗。
Everything is strikingly beautiful... but
しかし、暑すぎる。
もう撮影をするのがギリギリな感じ、、、、
it's very very hot. Too hot to be singing in such weather mid-day....
今日はいいカットがたくさんとれたから、明日も頑張る！

撮影の為に沖縄へ！ On to Okinawa for the video shoot!
昨日は夜に沖縄に向った。
今回の映像は久しぶりの新曲でもあり、新しいミュージックビデオの撮影にもなる。
Last night we headed out to Okinawa. This'll be our first new song in a while, and also our first new music video since Departure.
At the airport we ran into some trouble however.... the batteries for the helicopter slowed us down at security.
空港ではかなり時間をロスした。
ヘリのバッテリーが引っかかって、、、なんとかギリギリ搭乗できた！
We had some trouble but got on the plane in time.... Embarrassing delaying the whole flight, but made it on.
Now we're off to the island from the mainland.
さて、今これから離島に向かいます！

最近は涼しくてサイクリングもしやすい！
The weather has been rainy these days... but it's been cool so that's a major plus!
Today I was lucky to get some sun while cycling to the office.

先日のライブの写真 Photos up from some recent shows
All the issues that were making me pretty busy related to the accident have settled down. Now I’ll probably have some more work to do after Ive completed all of my rehabilitation. It’s really strange but after long hours on the desk my left hand is really numb. (My muscles work fine, but the sensation on the outside of my hand get’s really tingly… ) Doc says I’ll be fine with more rehabilitation so.. oh well!

最近は少し落ち着いて来て、事故の話も通院が終るまで特に進展はなさそう。
リハビリの状況としては結構調子は良くなっているが、デスクに長い時間向き合っているとやっぱり左手がしびれてくる。これは神経の問題じゃなくて、筋肉の問題？らしい。ま、という事できっと気付いたら治っているでしょ。。。

今日はなんか路面が濡れてたけど、天気は悪くなかった。
ちょっとでもまだ寒いかも。
The roads were kinda wet today but the weather wasn't that bad at all.

Guitar and Bass
朝は散歩。
Out on a morning walk.
The other day I had a gig playing guitar for a blues band. This photo below is from a rehearsal we had. I haven't played guitar live for a while now.
先日はブルースバンドのライブを渋谷でやって、下の写真はそのバンドのリハの風景。
久しぶりに人前でギターを弾いた気がする。
So what is the difference between these instruments. The guitar has six strings and so do some basses. yes usually the strings on a guitar are thinner than a bass.
but I guess the biggest difference for most is the role that the instrument plays in the ensemble.
ギターとベースの違いは楽器の違いというよりも、多分バンドの中での役割の違いの方が重要かな。
低域の役割は別にどの楽器が果たしてもいいのだと思う。バンド構成によってそれがチューバだったり、コントラバスだったり、シンセベースか、チェロかもしれない。今あげた楽器はどれもリード楽器/旋律を演奏する楽器になるかもしれない。
So I've another show coming up on the FEB16th where I'll be performing again as a guitarist. Looking forward to this as well.
Hope to get a lot done today.

最後にライブをしたのは9月頃かな。
それ以降は何だかボヤッとしていて、体調が悪かったせいか、、、なんか大変だった気持ちと焦る思いが強かった。
でも、大変な時は助けてくれる人がいて、その人達のおかげで今はまたそれなりに元気になって、自発的に動ける気がする。
何かしなきゃ、このまま内向的になる一方だと思うし、無理にでも何か楽しい事と思ってライブをブッキング。
2月6日に渋谷の Star Loungeで Lo-Fiでお世話になっているサポートメンバーを中心としたバンド Sshg! (シーっ！) でライブをします。

ドラム、(Murakami) Hiroki

My last show with Lo-Fi was in September 2013. Since then... to be honest things have been really down-hill. Everything was a blur and all I remember was the sick feeling I had of being nervous like crazy most of the time.
Anyway, when I was having a tough time, many people helped me out and that's why I feel so much better now after a busy year end. (Feeling busy doing nothing but panicking rather....!)
First it was out of the blue that I decided to book my own show. But now I feel it's appropriate that I play my own music again... after this long silence.
Well... long for me at least.
So on February 6th 2014, I'll be doing a show with the usual support members for Lo-Fi at the Star Lounge in Shibuya.
We called the band "Sshg!" pronounced "Shh!" ... yes very generically named with the first letters of our names.
Hope to share more about the event soon.

ライブで頂いたケーキ！ Thank you for the cake!!

この前 Shing02とGagleのライブのときにファンから頂きましたケーキ。
So this is it!!! This is the cake that we got as a gift when we performed with Shing02 and Gagle at the Loop in Daikanyma from a fan really close to us!

So here we are right now after a quick nap on our way to Kyoto. around 600 km away and we're traveling at alike 20km/h... So at this pace... we'll miss our show cause it'll take us 30hours to get there.
それで、いま自分らは少し寝てから京都に向かっている。600kmぐらい走るんだけど、東京でるのに皆拾ってたら三時間ぐらいかかったら、早速の運転交代。

この前 Shing02とGagleのライブのときにファンから頂きましたケーキ。
So this is it!!! This is the cake that we got as a gift when we performed with Shing02 and Gagle at the Loop in Daikanyma from a fan really close to us!
メチャ嬉しいです！
Really happy and grateful for the perfect gift for a band of cake lovers like us...!
So here we are right now after a quick nap on our way to Kyoto. around 600 km away and we're traveling at alike 20km/h... So at this pace... we'll miss our show cause it'll take us 30hours to get there.
それで、いま自分らは少し寝てから京都に向かっている。600kmぐらい走るんだけど、東京でるのに皆拾ってたら三時間ぐらいかかったら、早速の運転交代。

Victor Wooten三昧 , two-days of Victor Wooten
先日は大好きなアーティストのVictor Wootenのライブをビルボードでみた。
しかも、二日連続。
最高に楽しかった。
Went to see Victor Wooten perform at the Billboard Tokyo the other day. I went two days in a row and it was one of the best shows I've seen this year!
マニアックだけど、彼の出している本までしっかり読んでたりする。
物理学的に、一度放たれた音という振動は永遠と形を変えて宇宙を巡っている話や、楽器の枠組みを超えた発想で音楽を言語として捉える、間違った音なんて存在しない話も面白い。
Very philosophical but inspiring, I love the book that he wrote too. I respect his art a lot because its not about the bass or about a certain genre but it's more about what music is at a very fundamental level.
In his book he touches on the way he thinks and it's stuck with me ever since.
なんか、たくさん音を聞いて伝えてくれた彼のライブはいい刺激になったな。
もっと色んなライブを見に行きたいと思ったし、もっと色んな人達と共演したいと思った。
The recent shows he did in Japan were really inspiring and I can't wait to actually check out the camps he does in the US too.
Hope one day maybe I can bring his seminar stuff to Japan too.
Really looking forward to playing with more people and watching more shows these days.

なんとか間に合った！Somehow made it back in time!!
今日はレッスンが終わってから、湾岸の風になって横浜に行きました。

またここでも積極的に展示して頂いております！
Here I am at the Yokohama Tower Records shop and year again they've made sure our music was in the booths! Awesome!

アルバムも手にとって見てもらっていて気になったから後ろからずっと見てました、、、が！
置いてどっかいっちゃいました、、、、涙
何枚か既に売れていたと伺ったので、そんな方達と是非写真とか撮りたかったですね。

but unfortunately she didn't take it home..!
oh well! I wish I could have taken a shot with the people who bought the album earlier in the day according to the store clerk!!

今日の朝、レッスン三昧 My morning and lesson after lesson...

今日の朝は昨日のライブから帰って、殆ど時間が経たない内に朝になっていた。
今日もJAZZとゆっくり外で散歩をしてから朝の準備をした。
そう！
今日がついにThe Lo-Fiのアルバムが全国のCD店舗で購入できるようになる日なのだ。
どんな状況なのか、生徒達にレッスンを教えた後には覗きに行く予定だ！本当にたくさんの方のサポートや自分達のサウンドに共感してくれる人達の熱意に感謝してます。
皆の応援のおかげで、作品も作り続けられる。また、作品に込めてる想いも、より多くの人に届けられる。それによって、一人でも多くの人に力を与えられて、幸せにできればと思う。
最近は色々な人達とコラボしてライブもしていて、新しいバンドの音がうまれそうな気もしている。
もちろん変化にはそれなりの痛みもともなう物だと理解している。
今はこのリリースを一つのキッカケにもっと多くの人達と接して、多くの人から学んで、次のステップに踏み出そうと思う！

Half awake but went for a long walk with Jazz at a park nearby.
Great cool day with lots of sun. Can't believe it's already the rainy season here in Japan.
Today is finally the release of the CD version of the Fortitude album in Japan. It's already in the listening booths so I'm looking forward help promote the record stores hard work in displaying our new tracks!
It's amazing all if the support we've gotten from everyone to finish this project and now to roll out the finished product.
Thanks to everyone who supports our music! I hope we can pay you back with more great music to come!
